Our Big Kitchen has a big heart

Our Big Kitchen, in the Sydney suburb of Bondi, is a unique project.

It assists the needy, lonely, elderly and others in need of support via the unifying force of the preparation and enjoyment of food.

The sparkling stainless steel community kitchen has been built in the basement of the Yeshiva Centre, a well-known synagogue and educational facility designed by architect Harry Seidler.

Fantech supplied a kitchen exhaust fan.

People will eat there, volunteers will work there, community cook-ins will be held, and foodtechnology courses conducted. Sydney charities will use it, as will emergency services such as ambulance, fire and police, in times of crisis. The force behind the project is Rabbi Dovid Slavin. Fantech joined the many builders, sponsors, donors and workers – from both the Jewish and non-Jewish community - who helped create the $1.5 million facility at a fraction of the cost, with the supply of a kitchen exhaust fan. Our Big Kitchen provides healthy and wholesome meals, gives people a sense of belonging, and recognises the enormous power food has in crossing cultural boundaries.
